A close run and hard fought battle on Sunday the 16th of December, saw the RAF Lossiemouth Jets win the third bit of silverware for the year, after beating the Moray Dolphins in the annual Christmas charity shield challenge.

The night was going to be a close run thing, which was obvious from the start, when on just 9 seconds, Michael Muir scored with the Dolphins first shot of the game, beating the Jets guest keeper John Reid, however things didn't take long to change, and 30 seconds later, a well structured Jets attack saw Jets coach Jamie McIlroy score, assisted by former coach Andy Harris. The rest of the first period continued in much the same way, with some fast end to end play by both sides, leading to another 2 goals a piece, and several penalty minutes on both sides to, the score at the end of the first 3-3, with all to play for.

The second period started in much the same way, the Jets finding the back of the net first with a Chris Johnstone shot, assisted by Duggie Beveridge within the first 2 minutes and the Dolphins pulling it back again less than a minute after that Michael Muir beat the keeper again with a slap shot from the point, assisted by Ian Young. A very physical period ensued, with both teams playing the game hard, saw the Dolphins take the advantage by the end of the second with a one goal lead, the score at 7-8.

The Dolphins came out the traps fast at the start of the third again, Michael Muir getting his fifth goal of the evening, this time assisted by Douglas Duff, giving them a 2 goal advantage. Enough was enough for the Jets, who then stepped up the pace, and with some brilliant and consistent pressure on the Dolphin's keeper Steven Millar, scored the next 5 goals unanswered, until with less than 5 minutes to go, Jets Captain Chris Woodward, and Chris Johnstone ended up in the penalty box at the same time, giving the Dolphins a 5 on 3 player advantage, which they capitalized on, Thomas Snell scoring with an assist from Michael Muir. The way this game had been going, there still seemed a long way to go until the final whistle, with only a 2 goal margin to protect, it was time for the Jets to shut up shop, and keep hold of the puck, however it wasn't long before a break away chance happened seeing Chris Johnstone make up for his early indiscretion, scoring off an assist from Andy Harris with just 2 minutes to go. There were another few shots in the dying moments of the game, but the final buzzer sounded seeing the final score as Jets 13, Dolphins 10. Man of the match for the Jets 9-Andy Harris, for the Dolphins 23-Jonathon Mowat.

Over £360 pounds were raised on the night, through entry fees, a raffle, and a chuck a puck competition, and our thanks go to everyone who helped make the night a success, whether donating raffle prizes, helping to run the night, or just coming along to support your favorite team.

This was the final game for Jets founding member and former coach, Number 9 Andy Harris. Andy is leaving the club on posting down to Leuchars. It should go without saying, but we all wish Andy. Lynn and Cayden all the best for the future. Click here for more about Andy's departure.
